The action of three PAS members of Parliament, questioning the fatwa (edict) issued by the Selangor Fatwa Committee on the liberalism and pluralism ideologies, does not reflect Selangor PAS' stand
on the matter.

Selangor PAS commissioner, Iskandar Abdul Samad in a statement today said their action was seen as inappropriate as it could cause confusion among Muslims.

"The three MPs had acted without first discussing the matter with Selangor PAS although we hold weekly meetings among the party's elected representatives every Wednesday.

Our elected representatives should not act on their own as they contested in the general election on a party ticket and not on an individual's ticket.

Hence, their action will be reported to the PAS central leadership for further action," Iskandar said.

Yesterday, Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad reportedly said that Sisters In Islam (SIS) should not be accused of spreading the ideologies of liberalism and pluralism as their arguments were based on Islamic teachings.

Khalid also reportedy said that the fatwa gazetted by the Selangor Fatwa Committee also failed to detail the meaning of liberalism and pluralism.

Prior to this, two other MPs from PAS, Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (Sepang) and Datuk Mujahid Yusof Rawa (Parit Buntar) had urged the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) to clearly explain the definitions.

Recently, SIS was reported to be wanting to seek a judicial review on the fatwa which declared the non-governmental organisation as subscribing to the deviant ideologies of liberalism and pluralism.
