Gerakan almost ready with list of candidates for GE14
MAH: Those whose names are in the list will be scrutinised to ensure they are 'clean'.
Gerakan has almost completed its list of potential candidates for the coming 14th general election.
It president, Datuk Mah Siew Keong said the party had so far identified 80 percent of the candidates, consisting of new and old faces.
"What is important is we have the list, only that it is not finalised yet. Those whose names are in the list will be scrutinised to ensure they are 'clean'.
"We want our candidates to have integrity and credibility and acceptable by all," he told reporters after opening the Johor Gerakan delegates conference here today.
In a related matter, Mah said the party would discuss with the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership of taking back the Skudai seat in Johor, which had been given to MCA.
"We will discuss with BN for the Skudai state seat to be given back to Gerakan for this coming general election," he said.
He said the party was all geared up and making the necessary preparation for the coming general election, including to retain the Simpang Renggam parliamentary seat and the Pemanis state seat.
Earlier in his speech, Mah warned party members against sabotaging the party candidates in the coming general election.
"Whether you like (the candidate) or not, abide by the party's decision," he said.
Mah, who is Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, also advised the people to focus on the country's development instead of sowing hatred through street protests and demonstrations which could scare away investors and tourists from coming to the country.
"We don't need a hero for the Chine, Malay or Indian community, instead we need a hero for Malaysia, he added.
