Gerakan Youth confirms five leaders quit
TAN: Does not want to speculate on the reasons for the five resignations
Gerakan Youth on Friday denied that eight of its leaders had resigned from their posts as reported in the media previously.
Its chief Tan Keng Liang clarified that the youth wing had only received five letters through its secretary-general William Chang Yoong Hsi.
"Five, not eight... not six as reported by the media earlier," he said when contacted by Astro AWANI.
However, he refused to disclose the names of those who resigned, as he needed to verify them first.
He said there will be a meeting to deal with the issue next Tuesday at 8pm at the party's headquarters as he views the matter very seriously.
Tan said the meeting will also discuss and straighten out several allegations made by the media which he deemed as untrue.
When asked what those allegations were, Tan declined comments, saying that it might cause the issue to be blown out of proportion.
"The more I elaborate, the more I will publicise it... so I better not comment," he said, adding that the issue can be damaging to the party.
Expressing concern on what's happening, Tan however said he did not want to speculate on the reasons for the resignations.
A report by The Sun on Thursday claimed that eight Gerakan National Youth leaders had resigned from their posts due to differences with Tan.
In the report, the eight named were its vice-chief Clarence Lee, treasurer-general Adrian Ong Ching Woo, deputy treasurer-general Chan Tzun Hei, deputy secretary-generals Allan Tang Luan Kang and Ooi Zhi Yi, heads of bureau Chong Chee Yen and Chia Gim Tiong, and central committee member Ivanpal Grewal Singh.
