The leaders of the opposition pact have been urged to tell the truth about the Goods and Sales Tax (GST) and refrain from confusing the people with inaccurate information.
Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chairman Hng Chee Wey said this was because many incorrect information were circulated by the opposition pact during the campaign for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary area by-election here.
"Don't cheat. In their campaign, they claim the government imposed the GST on rice, oil and sugar. Is this (imposing GST on essential goods) what they want to do if they get to rule?" he told reporters here on Tuesday.
He said the opposition leaderships must also state their actual stand on the issue of GST as the some statements issued by their leaders contravened one another.
Hng said PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a media conference at Dewan Rakyat on Oct 31, 2013 and as the then opposition leader, said the opposition pact would also implement GST if it were to rule the country.
"So, for the opposition pact, please state your stand on GST. Hope we can get a clear answer, protest or support. Don't confuse the people," he said.
To counter the opposition's baseless allegations and incorrect information about GST, Hng said BN Youth would strive hard to help clarify and give due explanation about the system to the people.
The Permatang Pauh by-election on May 7 will see a four-corner fight between Suhaimi Sabudin (BN), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR), Azman Shah Othman (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Salleh Isahak (Independent).
