KUALA LUMPUR: The stability of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) can be achieved if Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is prepared to give the post of deputy prime minister to UMNO, said political analyst Dr Mohammad Tawfik Yaakob.
He said that the appropriate distribution of posts based on the ratio of the number of MPs needs to be implemented to ensure that the political ceasefire announced by UMNO could last a long time.
He explained that UMNO as the largest party in the government should be given the post of deputy prime minister.
"UMNO needs to be given enough places in the government, for example, to create the post of deputy prime minister and give to the party that is dominant in the government.
"If we see today, the distribution of two positions is not very appropriate, for example there are two senior ministers from Bersatu, how can UMNO not be angry?
"Therefore, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his administration need to address and reconsider how to alleviate internal tension in PN.
"If we want to solve bigger problems, we need to solve smaller problems well, then create stronger cooperation involving the parties in PN," he told Astro AWANI.
Dr Mohammad Tawfik also urged all MPs from either the government or the opposition to sit at the same table to discuss in ensuring the 2021 Budget is approved.
He explained that it was important because the Budget is presented for the benefit of the people and not for the position of politicians.
