'Guan Eng should not contest in CEC amidst corruption charges'

He said based on the principle of integrity and moral, the Penang Chief Minister should excuse himself as a candidate in the CEC election in November even though the list of candidates was based on the December 2012 election.

"Rationally to excuse oneself as a candidate would be the best example...when he is facing two corruption charges even though Guan Eng had declined to resign as chief minister.

"Essentially he should reject any posts in the party including the CEC when the third party election is held," he said in a statement today.

Rahmad said this was the best time for a leader like Guan Eng to transform the question of moral as well as the element of integrity or credibility.

"Do not use the December 2012 list as an excuse to be a candidate based on the order of the Registrar of Societies (RoS) but it is his exclusive right to determine his own position from the moral standpoint.

"There is no question of weakening DAP's administration without the involvement of Guan Eng as there were shortcomings in the past two elections under his charge as secretary-general and polls were not recognised by RoS," he said.
