UMNO members have been reminded to ignore unverified information on the social media, especially in connection with the government administration and the party's internal matters.

UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said any information which had not been assessed would adversely affect the future of the party as there are parties who want to break up unity in the party leadership.

He said with the coming general election, it was the responsibility of all the leaders, including those at the grassroots level, to explain to the people any issue in order to give a positive perception and regain the confidence of the people in the party.

"At the same time, I am hopeful that we are people who are internally strong, so we know what is the truth and what is not, we can choose between slander and truth.

"If we get suspicious information, our conscience will tell us not to trust it. This is because the information is unverified, and is ridiculous," he said.

Mukhriz, who is also the Menteri Besar of Kedah, was speaking at the official opening of the Besut UMNO Wanita, Youth and Puteri Delegates meeting in Kampung Gong Kemuntong, here today.

Also present were Higher Education Minister who is also Besut member of parliament, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh; Besut UMNO division head Nawi Mohamad and his deputy, Mohd Mahdi Musa as well as state UMNO Youth head, Johari Abu Bakar.

Meanwhile, without mentioning any names, Mukhriz also urged all leaders to listen to the voice of the grassroots to strengthen the internal politics of the party.
