An 'insider' aims to topple government, says Ahmad Zahid

Attempts to topple the government is being done by a ‘certain leader’ from the governing party (UMNO), said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“I do not want to reveal it.... but I can smell it.

“This leader is hoping for the support of 87 Opposition MPs and an Independent MP to overthrow the government using a back door,” said Zahid who is also UMNO vice-president.

This was said during his speech at the Ampang UMNO division yearly meeting today.

Zahid also expressed his surprise as the ‘leader’ leading the conspiracy was from UMNO itself.

He added that the information was obtained from a reliable source.

“However, as the Deputy Prime Minister, as the Home Minister, I will not let this (topple the government) happen," said Zahid.

He therefore, advised the Ampang UMNO division delegates not to betray each other.

Zahid also believed that the attempt will not be supported by the Barisan Nasioanal MPs.
