Pagoh UMNO division deputy chief Ismail Mohamed automatically becomes Pagoh UMNO division acting chief with immediate effect following the sacking of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin by the party yesterday.
Johor UMNO secretary Datuk Md Jais Sarday said Ismail's post as Pagoh UMNO division acting chief will be confirmed via letter by Monday in view of the weekend break.
"The next statement will be issued by Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin as Johor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman," he said in a statement here Friday.
Earlier, Prime Minister and UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the sacking of Muhyiddin and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir for indiscipline.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was suspended by the UMNO Supreme Council pending a report to the UMNO Disciplinary Committee.
Muhyiddin, 69, who is the Pagoh MP since winning the seat in 1978, has been Pagoh UMNO division chief since 1986.
