DAP today claimed that the phone of the contact person behind the party's campaign to ferry outstation voters to Teluk Intan this Saturday was hacked.
The party's election strategy chief Dr Ong Kian Ming said outstation voters who contacted the DAP number in order to purchase bus tickets to Teluk Intan at a subsidised rate, received unsolicited text messages from the phone number belonging to one Chee Fu Yue.
The SMS messages had urged them to vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Mah Siew Keong, said Ong.
The messages written in Chinese, said: "Tomorrow is voting day.‎ I sincerely request all my respected citizens to vote for me, Mah Siew Keong. I promise I will work for the future of TI."
All of Chee's contacts received the same message, including DAP members.
Ong claimed that BN had done this to ensure a low turnout for this Saturday's by-election, noting that DAP would lose should less than 65 percent of the voters cast their ballots.
"BN and their supporters should feel ashamed for hacking the phone intended to receive calls from outstation Teluk Intan voters wanting a seat on buses going back to Teluk Intan from the Klang Valley," said Ong, adding that BN would have a very low chance of winning if the voter turnout was 70 percent and above.
DAP had began offering subsidised bus tickets‎ as part of its "Jom Balik Undi" campaign, after the historic low voter turnout rate in the Bukit Gelugor by-election on May 25, with only 56.04 percent recorded.
In the last general election, Teluk Intan registered a 80 percent voter turnout, the highest ever recorded in the constituency.‎
There are over 60,000 voters in Teluk Intan.
Mah is facing DAP's candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in a straight fight.
Polling day is on Saturday.
