Kelantan PAS deputy commissioner I, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah confirmed he would contest for the post of party vice-president at the PAS general assembly (muktamar) next month, having submitted his nomination form Tuesday.
Mohd Amar, who is also Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar, had however declined to contest the post of deputy president, thus paving the way for party vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man to challenge for the No.2 post against the incumbent, Mohamad Sabu.
It will be a six-corner fight as he is up against the two incumbents Datuk Husam Musa and Salahuddin Ayub. The three other candidates are ulama leader, Idris Ahmad, Selangor PAS chief Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, and PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar.
Mohd Amar had previously shown interest in contesting in the deputy president post but decided to run for the vice-president post due to the number of nominations received.
"As Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man received a lot of nominations and I didn’t so I decided to run for the vice-president post.
"As usual, I offer myself and let the delegates decide," he said.
The deputy president post will see a straight fight between Tuan Ibrahim and incumbent Mohamad Sabu.
It is also a straight fight for the president’s post between between incumbent Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and former vice president Ahmad Awang PAS.
The party’s 61st muktamar will be held on June 3-6.
