Inviting Kit Siang (pic) to speak on hudud at the ceramah is an insult to the people of Kelantan, knowing the DAP adviser's strong objection to the Islamic law.
The Kelantan UMNO regarded the action by Kota Bharu PAS in inviting DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to speak on hudud at the party's event last Sunday as extreme and an insult to the Kelantanese.
Kelantan UMNO information chief, Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad said he also saw it as going against PAS' struggle to implement the law in the state.
"I am one of those who supported the hudud (when the matter was tabled) in the State Legislative Assembly, I regard the act as an insult," he told reporters at a function organised by the Kemubu Agricultural Development
Authority (Kada) here today.
He was referring to last Sunday's PAS ceramah (political talk) where Kit Siang was invited to speak on hudud and during which he objected to the implementation of the Islamic law.
Meanwhile, Kelantan PAS Deputy Commissioner Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said a state-level PAS committee, which held its meeting yesterday, had decided to seek explanation from the party's Kota Bharu branch for inviting the DAP leader.
"We see it as not nice and unsuitable for Kit Siang to come to Kelantan and talk with a different tone from that of the state government on hudud," he told reporters after the state exco meeting today.
According to media reports, Kit Siang had referred to Egypt and Jordan as examples, saying that the two countries did not implement the Islamic law despite Muslims making up more than 90 percent of their population.
