Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s dream of bagging the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) number two position almost dashed when the final party election results were announced today.
The results of up to June 28 which were released today, saw Abdul Khalid losing to incumbent deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali with a majority of 3,458.
Abdul Khalid received 17, 608 votes while Azmin received 21, 066 votes. Another contender, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail received 9,994 votes.
The results are from 195 branches out of the 198 nationwide.
Two branches, Kelana Jaya and Puchong are scheduled to hold re-elections on August 10 while the Pensiangan branch results has not been confirmed.
At a press conference today, PKR selection committee chairman Datuk Johari Abdul said the full results will be announced at the PKR National Congress, scheduled to be held at Stadium Melawati from Aug 22 to 24.
Meanwhile, for the position of party Youth chief, Batu Caves state assemblyman Amirudin Shari and Sri Setia state assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad are in a tight race.
Amirudin received 4,107 votes, Nik Nazmi (3,911) while another contender Nazree Yunus received 2,182 votes.
