Kuala Kangsar by-election: BN detects last-minute dirty tactic to tarnish Mastura's name
He said he had ordered for a police report to be lodged immediately over the matter.
Barisan Nasional has detected a dirty tactic used against its candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid in the Kuala Kangsar by-election, said Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.
Zambry, who is the BN director for the Kuala Kangsar by-election said the tactic was a despicable act and regret such an act was committed in the holy month of Ramadan.
A receipt for payment of RM500,000 made to the legal firm of Mastura, Yazid Baba & Partners in 2012 was used as campaign material to portray the BN candidate as having accepted a bribe for that amount in this by-election, he said.
"The truth is the receipt is for a payment or advance made to the firm in which Mastura is a partner," he said at a press conference today.
“I have ordered for a police report to be lodged immediately for police to open investigation,” he said.
He said there was nothing unusual for someone to deposit money in a law firm for a home or property purchase deposit or for legal service fee.
He said the money was not deposited into a personal account and added that the law firm’s account was audited annually by the Bar Council.
He stressed that the money could not be utilised as it was unethical to do so.
“So, there is no way that Mastura was engaged in any illegal activity,” he stressed, urging the voters of Kuala Kangsar not to be taken in by the slander.
In Kuala Kangsar, a total of 32,949 registered voters are eligible to cast their votes with a total of 69 polling channels at 23 polling stations are open in the Parliamentary by-election tomorrow.
