MCA Youth chief Senator Chong Sin Woon on Saturday said Kedah MCA deputy chairman Datuk Dr Leong Yong Kong who announced his resignation from the party on Friday should not have made his decision in the spur of the moment as a reaction to the hudud issue.
He said the Kedah state executive councillor should be together with the MCA leadership.
"A real hero stands and fights," he told reporters after opening a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education Exhibition, here yesterday.
Chong also said Kedah MCA chairman Datuk Lee Chee Leong would be meeting Leong to discuss the matter.
On Friday, Leong, who is Gurun assemblyman, announced his decision to resign from MCA at a media conference in Alor Setar as he was unhappy with the tabling of the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) 2016 Bill in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment in the bill, Chong said MCA did not intend to interfere in Islamic affairs and that the Barisan Nasional (BN) was still adhering to the Federal Constitution.
"I would like to stress that we are not against Islam and dont push us into a religious conflict. This is the stand of BN and it was never affected. The issue of hudud is not our agenda but that of Pas," he said.
