The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) claims that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution's allegation that it will adopt a selective attitude on any investigation against Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as untrue and ill-intended.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations), Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdul said that the body had never practiced investigations which favoured any party.
"As an independent, transparent and professional body, MACC regards Saifuddin's allegation that MACC carries out selective investigation and MACC will surely announce no cases against Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, as irresponsible and with ill intent against MACC.
"MACC wishes to remind the party concerned not to connect MACC with the political turbulence in PKR without a strong reason," he said in a statement today.
Mohd Shukri issued the statement in response to the statement by Saifuddin as reported in the English language portal, the Malay Mail online, claiming that Abdul Khalid dared to lodge a report with the MACC on allegations of discrepancies in his administration because the body would not take any follow up action.
In the article, Saifuddin also claimed that Abdul Khalid dared to lodge the report because he had became a Barisan Nasional-friendly politician.
"For sure MACC will clear him. You know the words ‘selective investigation’.
They will apply that to Khalid," said Saifuddin as quoted in the news report.
Commenting further, Mohd Shukri said the duty and responsibility of MACC was only to investigate every case which had elements of corruption under the provision of the MACC Act 2009.
"The act clearly provides that the duty of MACC is only conducting investigation and whether there is merit to charge or otherwise, is the duty of the public prosecutor based on information and evidence obtained.
"Saifuddin's statement that MACC practised selective investigation is baseless and totally untrue," he said.
Mohd Shukri also stressed that any complaint or information received which had basis would be investigated regardless of political backgrounds, race, religion, rank or position.
