Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid said she will consult the Mufti of Perak concerning performing her duty as elected representative.
Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid, who won the Kuala Kangsar Parliamentary by-election yesterday, will consult the Mufti of Perak Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria concerning performing her duty as elected representative.
Mastura said she had to serve the people of Kuala Kangsar despite being still in mourning for four months 10 days.
"Now that I have been picked as the elected representative in Kuala Kangsar, I need to know the guideline under which to serve, from the Mufti of Perak," she told reporters at her residence in Bukit Chandan here, today.
Mastura, 55, obtained a 6,969-vote majority compared to the 1,082-vote majority garnered by her late husband, Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad at the 13th general election.
Mastura obtained 12,653 votes to beat PAS candidate Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad (5,684 votes), Parti Amanah Negara candidate Prof Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli (4,883 votes) and independent, Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary who only received 54 votes and lost his deposit.
On the bigger majority she obtained, Mastura said among the factors contributing towards it was the Chinese community which had returned to support Barisan Nasional (BN), other than the integrated movement of the BN machinery in its campaign at the by-election.
"The majority was also a manifestation of the feelings of the voters of Kuala Kangsar towards Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar. They greatly appreciated the effort and the love of the former incumbent who had served in Kuala Kangsar," she said.
This morning, Mastura started to receive local residents seeking her service as an elected representative.
A villager from Kampung Menora, Hashim Azaldin, 70, was her first guest today at her residence in Bukit Chandan at 9.45 am.
Mastura said Hashim saw her to ask for help to seek treatment for blurring vision.
Meanwhile, handicapped Ismail Awang Besar, 52, of Kampung Sayong Lembah also turned up at Mastura's house to inform her that Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar had ordered a khat Quran wooden carving from him.
"I did ask him (her late husband) to buy Quranic verses to be placed on the wall of the house," she said.
