Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he respects the decision of former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu to resign from all his positions in the Penang state administration.
Lim said the decision by Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, was clear that he was a man of principle and is not greedy for power, after conforming to the decision to break with the DAP made at the PAS' 61st muktamar or annual general meeting
Any positions vacated by PAS representatives in the state government will soon be filled by other Malay leaders who are not from PAS, he told reporters after the Komtar Tower Run prize presentation, here, Sunday.
Yesterday, Mat Sabu decided to relinquish his positions on the board of the Penang Water Supply Corporation and the Penang International Halal Hub.
Mat Sabu said the decision was made at PAS' 61st annual general meeting when its Dewan Ulama's motion was accepted without debate for PAS to sever ties with DAP, but to remain in Pakatan Rakyat.
In the party elections on Thursday, Mat Sabu failed to retain his office after losing to Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
