Former UMNO vice-president Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib rejoins the party today, after about four years with the opposition.
His decision was made on the principles of party struggle, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak when announcing the matter today.
"We welcome his return to the party," Najib told a press conference at the party headquarters in Menara Dato' Onn here.
Meanwhile, Muhammad said he made his decision to rejoin UMNO as he found his struggles with the opposition party were futile.
"I find that their drive for the Malay agenda is sorely lacking, even in the meetings I have attended," said the former Selangor Menteri Besar.
Muhammad, better known as Mat Taib, left UMNO in 2013 to join PAS and later joined PKR in 2015.
He said his return to UMNO was not because of any position but due to his belief in the party's struggles.
Meanwhile, Selangor UMNO chief Tan Sri Noh Omar who was also present welcomed Muhammad's return.
"With his (Muhammad) inclusion, I believe we are rejuvenated in order to take back Selangor from the Opposition parties," said Noh.
