MCA will postpone its party election until after the 14th general election (GE14), said its president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the party was supposed to hold its election this year but had decided to postpone it to enable its members to concentrate on the GE14.
"In today's meeting we discussed at length on the postponement of the party election.
"With the party election aside we can go all out to make the necessary preparations in facing the challenges of the coming general election," he said after chairing the MCA Central Working Committee meeting here Sunday.
He said the party election would be held within six months after the GE14.
Meanwhile, in response to Barisan Nasional's (BN) victory in the 11th Sarawak state election yesterday, Liow said it was an encouraging sign.
"This shows that they (voters) are fed up with the empty promises made by DAP and Pakatan Rakyat to win votes.
"It is clear now that the Pakatan Rakyat's two partisan system is a failure," he said.
Liow, who is also Transport Minister, said the rift between DAP and PKR also showed that they were more concerned with their own agenda rather than the interests of the Sarawak people.
Liow said MCA also viewed the scenario as growing acceptance by the Sarawak people on BN's effectiveness and inclusiveness in administering the country.
"We are confident that other voters are also well aware of this fact and will continue to reject DAP and other opposition parties in the next general election," he said.
