MCA has vowed to ensure the legacy of Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar, the Pengkalan Kubor incumbent assemblyman who died last month, continues by helping the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate win in the
upcoming by-election for the state seat in Kelantan.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said, Noor Zahidi who was a very popular assemblyman among the locals, was also a very likeable person and had a lot of respect from the local community there.
"I give my tribute to him and appeal to the local voters to give BN support to continue his spirit and hardwork and services at Pengkalan Kubor.
"I think this very important because he is very popular...in fact the Chinese and Siamese community in Pengkalan Kubor liked him very much...that's the response I got from the local people. They are very happy with him," he told reporters after attending the MCA machinery meeting for the Pengkalan Kubor
by-election, yesterday.
Liow, who is also Transport Minister, said he had directed all MCA leaders to come to Pengkalan Kubor to make personal engagement with the local and have good reputation with them in ensuring BN's win.
The Pengkalan Kubor by-election is held following the death of Noor Zahidi due to liver cancer in China on Aug 20.
In the last general election, Noor Zahidi beat Saharun Ibrahim (PKR) and Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary (independent) with a majority of 1,736 votes.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Sept 13 for nomination and Sept 25 for polling.
The total number of registered voters in Pengkalan Kubor is 24,039. The constituency, which is predominantly Malay, has other small communities which are Siamese (1,653 voters) and Chinese (262 voters).
