The MIC's Extraordinary General Meeting held here today approved the party polls to be held after the 14th General Election (GE14).
GE14 is due to be held in 2018.
MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the delegates also agreed to give the mandate and powers to the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) to decide on the status of members who lost their membership, in line with the provisions of MIC's constitution.
Commenting on the action of some 50 supporters of former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, who caused a commotion outside while the EGM was going on, Dr Subramaniam said the EGM held today was valid and followed the rules and constitution of the party.
Meanwhile, former MIC treasurer-general Datuk R. Ramanan claimed that he was invited but was not allowed to join the EGM.
The three-hour EGM also saw issues concerning the Indian community such as education, job opportunities and unilateral conversions hotly debated by the delegates.
