MIC focuses on two main agendas in transforming party - Dr Subramaniam

In efforts to transform the MIC, the party will focus on two main agendas, namely to win more seats in the next general election and to gain the support and confidence of the Indian community in the MIC.

Party deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the MIC had identified several problems which had always hindered the growth of the party.

"Among the problems faced by the MIC is the communication problem between the members and top party leadership. Division and branch heads do not know the developments in the party," he told reporters.

He disclosed this after attending the closing ceremony for the Indian Community and Government Strategic Leadership Seminar organised by the Special Implementation Task Force (SITF), the Cabinet Committee on Indian Social Affairs in the Prime Minister's Department, here Sunday.

The three-day seminar, which began on Friday, was attended by 100 MIC division heads nationwide.

In the 2013 general election, the MIC won four of the nine parliamentary seats and five of the 18 state constituency seats that it contested.

Issues on the challenges faced in the economic, education and social development of the Indian community were discussed by the division heads together with the MIC top leadership at the seminar.

Dr Subramaniam, who is also the Health Minister, said the MIC would set up a Resource Centre that could function as a group that could share knowledge and the party's direction with party leaders including at the branch, divisional and state levels.
