MIC to recruit more professionals in bid to strengthen party
To attract this particular group of people, Dr Subramaniam says the MIC wings have been tasked with going down to the ground to personally talk to the people.
MIC, in a bid to strengthen the party, will be recruiting more professionals as members.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said its MIC Wanita, Youth, Puteri and Putera wings were now actively registering members from professional groups and graduates of higher education institutions.
"Many of these people have a negative perception of MIC, the role of the MIC wings is to go down to the ground to meet and explain to them the importance of MIC's task in looking after the welfare of the Indian community," he told reporters after simultaneously opening the three wings' general assemblies here, Saturday.
Meanwhile, Dr Subramaniam said MIC Youth's proposal that the government provide appropriate assistance to the Indians in education and economic development will be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"Among the problems faced by the community are that the education loans provided to university students are insufficient. Other issues needing government perusal are micro-loans for businesses and home ownership issues," he said.
Regarding allegations about groups out to sabotage the party, Dr Subramaniam said the number of people involved was small and they were outsiders and that many supporters of former president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel had rejoined the party. -- Bernama
