MIC Youth members should concentrate on providing public service to get good political mileage and gain support for the party, said Barisan Nasional Youth Wing deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun.
He said this was the best approach to get closer to the people and to help solve their problems.
"If the people want to have some fun, listen to talks filled with profanities and blatant lies, they can go to the opposition.
"But ultimately when there is a natural disaster and they are in urgent need for help, the people will look for BN leaders even though the area is not represented by BN," he told reporters after opening the 29th National MIC Youth General Assembly here, Saturday.
Khairul Azwan, who is also UMNO Youth deputy chief, said MIC Youth should be the agent or intermediary between the people and the government.
He said if the MIC Youth members could not resolve the people's problems they could always forward the issues to the relevant parties.
Meanwhile, MIC Youth deputy chief R. Thinalan said the assembly had formulated several resolutions, among them, the need to create educational loan fund to help Indian students wishing to further their studies abroad.
He said the MIC Youth also wanted the government to set a 10 per cent quota for Indian youths under the Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PRIMA) house ownership programme. -- Bernama
