MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S.K Devamany was sworn in as a Senator today.
He took his oath before Senate president Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran here.
This followed the announcement of his appointment as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in a Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Putrajaya earlier.
"The Senate president would like to congratulate him and it is hoped that he will play his roles as a Senator to the best of his ability," the Malaysian Parliament said in a statement.
Devamany, 59, became the Cameron Highlands MP in 2004 after defeating DAP's J. Apalasamy with 6,260-vote majority and retained the seat in the 2008 general election.
He had held the post of Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department once from 2008 to 2013 and was MIC treasurer in 2008 before being elected as vice-president from 2009 to 2012.
He hold a Bachelor's degree in Malay Literature from Universiti Malaya and a Master's degree in Economics from Universiti Utara Malaysia.
