Former MIC Youth chiefs Datuk T. Mohan and Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran and former treasurer-general Datuk Jaspal Singh gained victory as party vice presidents at MIC's re-elections today.
The candidate who failed in his bid to secure a place in the top three was MIC Information chief Datuk V.S. Mogan.
The votes of the winners were however not announced as the margins among them were very narrow.
The results were announced by MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam during the 67th MIC Annual General Meeting (AGM) here.
During the 2013 elections in Melaka, the vice president seats were swept by Datuk S. Sothinathan with 717 votes, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan (716 votes) and S.Balakrishnan (683 votes).
Meanwhile, Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan retained his post as a member of the Central Working Committee(CWC) with 1249 votes while Datuk Vel Pari, the son of former MIC president Datuk Seri S Samy Velu, was elected as a new face in the CWC after garnering 965 votes.
Both were elected among the 23 candidates who defeated 44 others vying for CWC seats.
The AGM scheduled for Dec 13 and 14 last year was postponed on the order of the Registrar of Societies (ROS) which wanted the party to hold its AGM after new elections were held for the posts of the three vice-presidents, CWC members, as well as eight divisions.
ROS cancelled the party election held in November 2013 after receiving complaints on irregularities on the election process.
