Perak Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said UMNO’s decision to expel its deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir is fair after taking into consideration all aspects.
He said the decision was taken after both the leaders were found to have violated the party’s constitution.
“Although it is a painful and difficult decision, this is the party’s decision and we in Perak support it,” he said at a press conference today.
He said he agreed with party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s statement that one of the basis of the decision was that both the expelled leaders had shared the same stage with the Opposition and attacked the party's leadership.
On another matter, Zambry said the Hari Raya celebration which will be held in Kuala Kangsar has nothing to do with the BN’s victory of the seat in the recently concluded by-election.
“The Election Commission had set two months’ time after the election and we do not have any plans to hold any celebration,” he said.
“It so happened that this time Kuala Kangsar is picked,” he added.
