Former Chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has stressed that his omission as the candidate for chairman for the party election next month is invalid.
According to him, the court has yet to make an official decision on his membership status with several other former Bersatu leaders.
He added that he is still a valid Bersatu member at the moment and is still eligible to contest in the election to defend his position as the party chairman as he has been nominated before.
"My omission is not valid. We are still members unless the court says this removal is valid. Otherwise we still consider ourselves members and (eligible) to hold office.
"And I was nominated without any other candidates, no contender," he said when met by the media after the Kedah state level Bersatu Blackout Program at a hotel here on Saturday.
Dr Mahathir stressed that he would continue to work and is planning follow up actions to maintain his position in Bersatu.
Meanwhile, former Bersatu Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said all parties should wait for the court to make a decision on this matter on August 7.
He said the implementation of any decision or action by the party before the date is seen as disrespecting the court institution itself.
"We do not recognize the issue of the nullification of our membership or the question of any victory at any stage of the party election because of their actions to drop our name as candidates in the party election.
"In our opinion, it seems like an insult to the court that has not yet made a decision.
"(The decision) of the court will take place on August 7. We should wait for that first," he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was reported to have unofficially won unopposed to retain the post of Bersatu president after becoming the sole candidate for the post in the party's election next month.
Also winning unopposed (unofficially) for deputy president is Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is also the sole candidate for the post.
However, the Chairman of the Party Election Committee, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar explained that the official announcement on the election results will be made after the completion of all Bersatu division meetings expected in August.
In another development, Dr Mahathir explained that he would travel all over the country to promote the ‘Bersatu Blackout' campaign.
According to him, it is a signal in explaining the truth to the grassroots of the party, especially the real political situation that is happening in Malaysia currently.
