Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak asked the PKR-led Selangor government to clarify whether it supports PAS or Parti Amanah Negara in the Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election.
He said the state government seemed to be uncertain about its stand because it had Amanah as a partner in Pakatan Harapan while it maintained ties with PAS, its ally in the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat.
Najib said the confusion in the opposition was obvious.
"In Sarawak (state election), we saw PKR and DAP (another partner in Pakatan Harapan) clashing in many areas. Here, we also see that ... where is the Selangor government's stand, whom does it support, Amanah or PAS? Please be clear," he said in his speech at the breaking of fast with the people of Selangor at the Ma'muniah Mosque, Simpang Lima, here.
The Prime Minister also questioned the stand of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali towards PAS which had its people's representatives in the state government when the party was not in Pakatan Harapan.
"They are in one government but there is no understanding. This is not a recipe which will give confidence," said Najib.
Also present at the event were the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Selangor Barisan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar, Wanita UMNO chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and Sungai Besar by-election BN candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi.
The Prime Minister said the nation needed a strong government and the BN government had proven that it was capable of managing policies which prioritised the people.
He said the strength of the BN government would be enhanced if it won the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.
Najib said that though the government was faced with economic uncertainties as a result of the drop in world oil prices, it was still able to look after the welfare of the people and approve projects for their benefit.
He said this was the difference enjoyed by the people who chose a government which knew how to manage the country through its administrative policies.
"That is the benefit of choosing a government which is stable because, if we are confused, what will happen to the nation ... in the end, our economy will collapse," he said.
Najib said choosing a government was not a trivial matter and should not be done emotionally, but with a rational and calm mind, knowing what is required for the nation.
He also said that the choice of Budiman as the BN candidate in the by-election was based on his good track record as the Sungai Panjang state assemblyman.
"We know he works hard and is well-accepted by the people and so, when he becomes the member of parliament here, I am confident he will meet your expectations," he said.
Meanwhile, Form One student Siti Nuraisyah Sahrin was on cloud nine because she realised her dream of meeting the Prime Minister.
The student of Sekolah Menengah Bagan Terap met Najib after the 'terawih' prayers at the Masjid Al-Mukmin, Sungai Nibong, here.
"I am very happy to have met the Prime Minister because I have never met the man who has helped me so much," she said.
