Mat Raziwas a popular candidate with the Pengkalan Kubor voters.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Barisan Nasional's (BN) big win in the Pengkalan Kubor by-election shows that the people accepted government policies.
The Prime Minister said BN's majority which rose by about 900 votes proved the efficiency of its election machinery while the candidate was popular with the voters.
"The win is not unexpected but we were unsure about the majority. It is a big win because we beat PAS which is stronger than PKR," he told the Malaysian media here.
As for BN candidate Mat Razi Mat Ail, Najib said: "The candidate does not have baggage, no personal problems, clean, religious, low profile and humble."
Najib said the victory will be the basis for strengthening the Umno and BN machinery.
He had contacted his deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Kelantan Umno chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Mat Razi and the election machinery to express his gratitude.
The Prime Minister is in the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly and a working visit from Sept 20-28.
