Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had asked the people to not be too excited in spreading speculations on the social media, especially on issues surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

According to a source from an UMNO wing, Najib also asked the 1,200-odd delegates who attended the Majlis Penerangan Perdana (MPP) recently to not easily believe the matters brought about by the Opposition.

“Najib reminded the delegates, don’t spread issues on social media without checking the facts first, and don’t be influenced by the Opposition’s game too easily.

“This includes issues on 1MDB which had been described as a hot topic right now, with many versions and speculations being spread on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms,” the source told Astro AWANI today.

The source was commenting on the happenings within the MPP that was held at the Putra World Trade Centre last Saturday.

Previously, it was reported that among the issues addressed by Najib, who is UMNO president, at the closed-door event were 1MDB’s debts and the rift between former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The source also said, Najib had related that his commitment towards the Malay and Bumiputera agenda is still intact.

“Najib asked all delegates to not question the assistance rendered to the Chinese and Indian communities because the priority has never swayed from the Malays.

“He stressed on the importance for the Malays to unite and also on boosting the Malay voter registration.

“He also wanted all party members to take advantage of the crisis surrounding the Opposition. He said, this is the time for UMNO to move forward and provide the best service to the people. The Opposition’s crisis needs to benefit UMNO,” the source said.

Meanwhile, another party source said UMNO was not experiencing many internal issues at this point, and Najib had related that the party was on the right track although the explanation on certain current issues can be improved.

“The UMNO president reminded that party members need to be wise in tackling local issues so that UMNO can continue to lead.

“The Malays also need to unite and support UMNO, only then the party will be strong and effective in governing the country without interference,” the source added.
