Nearly 70 percent of Sabah PKR leaders including its chairman Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin today resigned and quit the party.
Lajim, who is Klias assemblyman, announced the decision in front of about 500 supporters here.
Apart from Lajim, several leaders including Sabah PKR secretary-general Datuk Maijol Mahap, Moyog assemblyman Terence Siambun, Women chief Johair Matlani and several women branches.
Lajim said the decision was made after taking into account the expectations of the people of Sabah who wanted a local party leadership to fight for the right of Sabahans.
Speaking to the reporters, Lajim said he would form a new local party and was currently in the process of registration and obtaining approval from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Likas assemblyman Junz Wong, who is also Sabah DAP secretary, also announced quitting the opposition party along with its deputy chairman Joan Goh and vice chairman George Hiew. -- Bernama
