Pengkalan Chepa Pas will not take the defeat of its Youth chief, Nik Mohamed Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz as a signal to end the legacy left behind by his father, the late Pas spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
Pengkalan Chepa division head, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said Nik Abduh holds a more important role at Federal level as Pas Youth chief and Pasir Mas MP.
“Nil Abduh is a Pas Youth chief and Pasir Mas MP. With such huge responsibilities, he does not have the time to give his full focus in Pengkalan Chepa as he has a bigger role to play.
“(The winner) Dr Izani Hussin is the most suitable candidate since he is also Pengkalan Chepa MP. That is my opinion about Nik Abduh’s defeat, so it does not mean that people are rejecting him or his father’s legacy.
Nik Abduh was defeated by incumbent Dr Izani Husin who clinched 209 votes in Pas divisional poll last Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mohd Amar, who is also Pas vice president said that any decisions over Pas’ political cooperation with PKR will be announced at its muktamar in Kedah, next month.
He also said although there was a proposal from Tumpat Pas Youth and Permatang Pauh Pas to decide on the Pas-PKR pact, it has to be a unanimous decision made at the Muktamar.
The 63rd Pas muktamar is scheduled from April 28 and May 1 in Kedah.
