Former Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim says there is no need to formally dissolve the Pakatan Rakyat pact as it was never a legal entity.

“Pakatan Rakyat is an informal association, so there is no need to formally dissolve it,” he told Astro AWANI.

On Tuesday, DAP’s secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the DAP central executive committee (CEC) had unanimously resolved that Pakatan Rakyat ceases to exist.

Lim said the party accepted PAS’s 61st Muktamar’s motion to sever ties with the party.

However, DAP said it will continue working with PKR and other forces who want to end Barisan Nasional’s rule.

When asked about a new pact which might be formed following the 'demise' of the PR, Zaid declined to comment.

“I have no comment on a new pact,” he said via a text message.

The former PKR leader also said that he would not rejoin PKR or any of its former allies following the recent crisis in the pact.

Zaid joined PKR in 2009 and subsequently was appointed to head the Pakatan Rakyat’s Common Policy Framework where he was responsible for formulating the pact’s blueprint for change and reform.

However, he left the party in 2010 and founded the People’s Welfare Party – or better known as KITA – in the same year.

Zaid resigned as KITA president in 2012.
