Ahmad Husni had previously asked the government to state the reason for establishing 1MDB, and if any action had been taken against the company for channeling its funds to the wrong places.
There is no need yet for UMNO to take action against former Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah for raising the issue of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) in Dewan Rakyat recently.
UMNO information chief, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said this was because the former second finance minister did not raise the matter from UMNO's point of view.
"The party and the law have a different set of rules. For now, there's no need for the party to take any action," he told reporters when met at Parliament lobby today.
He said Ahmad Husni has not breached any party discipline.
"Our parliamentarians are free to speak, there have also been other party members who question the government before this. So from there, we don't see him (Ahmad Husni) as having violated any rules."
Nevertheless, under the existing laws, the police would still need to determine Ahmad Husni's intention in raising the issue, said Annuar.
"But him being investigated doesn't mean that he's guilty," he said.
Annuar said, there were still some matters in Parliament which are exempted from the MPs' immunity.
"For example, issues of the Malay Rulers, or sedition and slander. Which is why the police still need to investigate."
Annuar said, asking about 1MDB was not a wrongdoing but it all depends on the situation.
"There have been many who raised about 1MDB, even myself. I don't think asking about 1MDB is a crime but like I said, it depends. There could be more to it," he added.
During the tabling of the 2017 Budget recently, Ahmad Husni had asked the government to state the reason for establishing 1MDB, and if any action had been taken against the company for channeling its funds to the wrong places.
