KUALA LUMPUR:None of the UMNO Members of Parliament (MPs) have given support to Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to form a new government, said Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

Nazri refuted a portal report on Sunday claiming that there was unrest among UMNO MPs over support for Anwar.

"I have contacted all UMNO MPs who are not in the government including Zahid (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), no one has admitted to supporting Anwar," he told Astro AWANI.

Nazri explained that UMNO President Zahid's previous statement that he would not block if there were MPs from the party wanting to give support to any party, does not mean that they supported Anwar.

“We (UMNO MPs) make decisions together and will not act in our personal capacity.

"I need to clarify this matter so that there is no confusion about the stand of UMNO MPs in this issue," he added.

On Sunday, a portal claimed that there was tension among UMNO MPs on the issue of giving support to Anwar.

The portal's report was based on the statements of three UMNO MPs who claimed that the party was divided into three groups, namely those who supported Anwar, opposed and the fence-sitters who had not yet made a decision.

Recently, Anwar claimed to have strong and convincing support and a majority from MPs from various parties to form a new government.

He also claimed that he would have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow to inform His Majesty of the support he had received to form a new government.
