Not joining PN, UMNO decides to use BN symbol in GE15 - Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR:UMNO will use the Barisan Nasional (BN) symbol in the 15th General Election (GE15) following the decision not to join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) as one of its component, said UMNO Vice President, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

"UMNO has also decided not to join PN as one of the components of the party. On that basis, UMNO will use the BN symbol that it leads with MCA and MIC in GE15," he explained in a Mingguan Malaysia report on Sunday.

However, Ismail Sabri explained, an agreement has been reached so that there is no clash between BN and PN as PAS will also join PN with Bersatu.

Regarding the distribution of seats, Ismail Sabri said, the Seat Distribution Committee had consulted with PAS when he chaired it.

However, after PAS decided to join PN, he said, it was not known whether negotiations would continue with PN, PAS or Bersatu.

This is because the committee is currently chaired by UMNO Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

However, Ismail Sabri stressed that the position of Muafakat Nasional (MN) is still strong, namely the agreement to unite the ummah in terms of thoughts and actions instead of forming a coalition of parties.

He added that although there is a proposal for MN to be registered as a party coalition, the matter is seen as difficult to implement as PAS is already with PN.

"So it is impossible for a party to be in two coalitions," he added.
