Johor UMNO Deputy Chairman, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has come forward in support of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s suggestion for the party’s ministers and deputy ministers to leave the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Cabinet.
In a statement, Nur Jazlan said the suggestion by the Chairman of the UMNO advisory body was timely because of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) opening its doors to non-Malay members’ admission into the party.
The former Pulai MP explained that Bersatu had gone against the basic principle of the Muafakat Nasional’s (MN) establishment, which is as a Malay-Muslim party consensus.
“So, the ministers or deputy ministers from UMNO needs to resign and leave the Perikatan Nasional government.
“The proposal of establishing a non-Malay wing in Bersatu defeats the concept and harmonization of MN, therefore why are the UMNO MPs sitting in the PN government,” he said.
Nur Jazlan said leaders from UMNO need to be aware that their position and future are determined by grassroots members who are angry with the ‘political game’ of Bersatu.
Nur Jazlan explained that if Bersatu can shift path and adopt a few different steps just a week upon agreeing to join MN, what is the guarantee that they will not make a “u-turn” again after this.
On Friday, Tengku Razaleigh said Bersatu’s action in opening its membership to non-Bumiputeras make the party non-eligible to be in the “Malay-Muslim alliance-backed MN”.
