Pagoh UMNO wants a local to be fielded as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the coming general election, said the division's acting leader, Ismail Mohamed.
He said he had brought up the matter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also UMNO president, at a meeting recently.
"As we know, Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Jorak assemblyman Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh are not born in Pagoh.
"All the while, we have been given chance to outsiders and now the time has come for a Pagoh-born to be fielded as a candidate because the person understands better the people of Pagoh," he added.
He told this to reporters after welcoming the visit by national hero Tan Wee Kiong to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Kung Yu, Kundang Ulu here Sunday.
Ismail said it would not be a problem to find a suitable candidate as they were many people who were qualified and capable of ensuring a win for BN. -- Bernama
