Pahang police will deploy 295 personnel to ensure the Rompin parlimentary by-election runs smoothly, said its chief Datuk Seri Sharifuddin Ab Ghani.
He said all preparations had been made and these police personnel would be placed at three zones, namely Rompin, Muadzam Shah and Pulau Tioman.
"We would also ask for additional help from state Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), General Operations Force (GOF), marine police and anti-riot unit, to be placed at these three zones as well," he said.
Sharifuddin disclosed this to reporters when met after his visit to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan here today, in conjuction with the 208th Police Day celebration.
He also noted that police had held a meeting yesterday, regarding the Rompin by-election.
Meanwhile, Sharifuddin reminded political parties, both the leaders and supporters to adhere to police directives and not to cause chaos, especially during the campaigning period.
"All parties, who wished to hold ceramah are advised to apply for permits from the police.
"We will not compromise with those attempting to cause chaos or staging sabotage during campaigning," he said, adding that he hoped for a smooth by-election, just like the previous general election.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter mishap in Semenyih, Selangor on April 4.
The late Jamaluddin was a six-term Member of Parliament from 1990. In the 2013 general election, he beat PAS Women chief Nuridah Mohd Salleh by a 15,114 vote majority.
The Election Commission had set May 5 as the polling day, while nomination day would be on April 22.
