Pak Samad joins DAP to continue struggle previously expressed only via poems

National laureate Datuk A.Samad Said joined DAP to continue his fight and struggle, which he only used to express through the verses of his poetry.

Better known as Pak Samad, he said the time has come for him to be actively involved in politics because laureates should also be allowed to express their support to their chosen party openly.

“I have thought about joining DAP since a couple of years back. I follow the political developments in the country. I decided to join the DAP because this party is a political party that has a clear basis and hardworking members.

“What is the point of writing alone, it is better to join a political party," he told reporters after handing over house keys to flood victims in Kampung Pasir Tumboh here, today.

Yesterday, many portals reported that Pak Samad was set to join DAP.

The 80-year-old received his membership card from DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang at an event held in Gua Musang, Kelantan on Saturday.

Samad had previously made his appearance in the many rallies and protests organized by the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in addition to leading the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) in demanding a change in the electoral process.
