The people have learnt not to be taken in by general promises, said UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, regarding the pledge made by Pakatan Harapan Youth to create one million job opportunities.
Khairy, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, said they must show proof of the plan to realise the objective if it was true that Pakatan Harapan would fulfill the pledge.
"Whatever promise must be furnished with a plan such as the Economic Transformation Programme, the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) and so on ... all these generate employment.
"If they say they want to generate one million job opportunities, they should show in what field, through which investment and from which allocation," he said after the Presentation of the 2017 National Youth Premier Award, here today.
Khairy said this to reporters when asked on the statement by a Pakatan Harapan youth leader last Friday that one million jobs would be created within five years if the coalition succeeded in taking over the government in the 14th General Election (GE14).
Asked on the cooperation between PAS and UMNO, Khairy said it should be studied in detail so that it would not jeopardise relations betweem UMNO and the other component parties of Barisan Nasonal (BN).
He said if the basis of the cooperation concerned the Malays and Islamic religion, both parties could discuss the matter and analyse the proposal.
"To me what is of utmost importance is our relations with the BN components. We do not want to have any cooperation with PAS, although it may be considered positive, it could affect our ties with the other BN component parties," he explained.
Commenting on the possibility of having three-cornered fights in all the seats in the GE14 following the decision by PAS to sever ties with PKR, Khairy said UMNO Youth would still make preparations to face straight fights.
Conceding that three-cornered fights would give an advantage to BN, he however did not want the party machinery to be too complacent.
