The new Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today announced that Pakatan Rakyat would revive its shadow Cabinet.
She said the move was to safeguard public interest.
The Permatang Pauh MP said each ministry would be represented by a parliamentarian from each Opposition party.
“The reason is to strengthen check and balance as well as to safeguard the interest of the rakyat,” Wan Azizah told newsmen at the Parliament lobby today.
In addition, she also suggested for the government to immediately establish a Fiscal Committee or Parliament Budget so that the process of drawing up the national budget would be more inclusive and effective.
“This is to ensure that transparency and accountability are made the basis for good governance.
Meanwhile, Wan Azizah, who is also PKR president, also thanked her Pakatan alliances as well as Permatang Pauh voters for re-electing her as MP.
She said her victory in the May 7 by-election proved that the fight by her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was still relevant.
Earlier, Wan Azizah was officially appointed as Opposition Leader at the Dewan Rakyat.
The swearing-in ceremony as Opposition Leaders and Permatang Pauh MP was held before Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
