Palanivel declares himself the new MIC president

“I received 334 nominations which translate into more than 2,000 Branch Chairmen solidly supporting me as the valid and truthful President of MIC. Further, there was no other nomination received from any other candidate for the position of President of MIC,” he said in a statement today.

“Thus, I have been declared as the President of MIC elected unopposed by more than 2,000 branch chairmen,” he added.

“This overwhelming mandate given by the Branch Chairmen shows the true support of the MIC grassroots as well as the Indian community generally to my leadership,” he said.

The nomination was held at HGH Convention Centre, Sentul today.

With the ‘new mandate’, Palanivel vowed to bring back all the party assets back to the MIC.

“As decided in the previous Interim Central Working Committee, the Special Committee will be set up and I will announce the Head of the Special Committee in the very near future,” he said adding that state leaders will also be part of the committee.

Palanivel said he will be launching a comprehensive Socio-Economic Blueprint for the Malaysian Indian community within two weeks time.

“This Blueprint will be catalyst for the overall socio-economic development for the Malaysian Indian community for the next 15 years,” he added.

The party has been locked in a fierce battle following Palanivel's decision to bring the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to court over its order for the 2013 party polls re-election.

Palanivel's action had caused him to be expelled from the party, his deputy Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said.
