Gerakan Amanah Baru (GHB) chairman, Mohamad Sabu today announced Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) as it official political platform.
Mohamad announced that GHB had taken over and re-branded the Workers Party after its application to form a party under the name Parti Progressive Islam (PPI) was rejected by the Home Ministry.
“Through legal process, Gerakan Harapan Baru had applied for a new Islamic Party called Parti Progressive Islam (PPI) in line with the rights provided in the National Constitution.
“In understanding the difficulty of obtaining an approval for a new party, GHB however achieved its goal through existing political platform,” said the former PAS deputy president during a press conference held here today.
Mohamad or better known as Mat Sabu said the party's launching ceremony will be made on September 16 where they will also unveil the party's logo and portfolio.
He expressed confidence that many would join Amanah - not just Muslims but non-Muslim as well, and win big in the next general election.
"We are currently gathering new members and some had already submitted their membership forms. By Sept 16, we will have about 35,000 new members," he said.
Mohamad said they would continue cooperating with existing Opposition states in Penang, Kelantan and Selangor.
He also informed that the new party would remain true to its Islamic struggles and principles.
"We are confident that our Islamic policies in the party's constitution would attract both Muslims and non-Muslims due to our inclusive nature," said Mohamad.
In the press conference, he also annouced the party's new line-up which was appointed during the party's extroardinary congress on August 25, 2015.
