Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (IKATAN) was launched today aimed at reuniting the Malaysian people under one multiracial party and to resurrect the aspiration of Malaysia's founding fathers.
Its president, Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said among the issues which had brought to the establishment of the party is when he realised the weaknesses within the country’s administration.
“I want to establish IKATAN for our founding fathers who established this country,” said the former deputy president of Angkatan Amanah Merdeka who quoted names such as the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra AlHaj, Tun Tan Cheng Lock and Tun Sambanthan.
Abdul Kadir added that IKATAN has been established to continue the struggles of Datuk Onn Jaafar and the leaders of Parti Perikatan who had once aimed at establishing a multiracial country.
“IKATAN wants to reactivate the path towards Wawasan 2020 which aims at creating a Malaysia which is united, fair and just.
“We are not pro-Barisan Nasional nor are we pro-Opposition. We are a party which is for the future generation and will support only the best for the country,” said Abdul Kadir.
IKATAN which hopes to be a massed-based party with divisions and branches in every state and Parliament constituencies will be introduced during Hari Malaysia on September 16, 2015.
Abdul Kadir added that the the party is not a party for the next election, but to improve the country's political direction which is seen to be lost.
“We are not thinking about the next election but we want to champion a certain issue which is widely spoken about.
“We want to recreate the country’s political mould which has deviated from its fundamental struggle.
“Parti PERIKATAN wants to return the country’s political path to its original struggle,” said Abdul Kadir.
