PAS can win the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections next month, stressed its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Based on previous records, he said, winning is not impossible for the Islamic party.
“We have won in Arau with a majority of more than 1,000 votes. Insya-Allah we can win in both (Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections).
“Just wait and see," said Abdul Hadi, who is also Marang Member of Parliament, when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby here today.
At the same time, he expressed optimism that the party is capable of getting support from voters, especially in Sungai Besar.
"We have contested a few times in Sungai Besar, so I am optimistic (of winning)," he said.
Asked to comment whether PAS holds meetings with PKR Deputy President Datuk Seri Azmin Ali to discuss the by-elections, he said: "No. Azmin and me do not have meetings to discuss it.”
Previously, PAS insisted it will contest in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar Parliamentary by-elections, in Selangor and Perak respectively, which will take place on June 18.
Abdul Hadi said, the Ulama Syura Council has approved the names of candidates from the party to contest in the by-elections.
The Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar seats fell vacant following the death of incumbent representatives Datuk Noriah Kasnon and Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad respectively who were killed in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.
