Nik Mohamad Abduh is the only one among Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz's sons, who is active in politics.
PAS central committee member, Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has been rumoured as candidate to contest the Chempaka state seat by-election scheduled to be held on March 22.
A source with the party in Kelantan told Astro AWANI, Nik Mohamad Abduh may be chosen because he is the only one among Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz’s sons, who is active in politics.
Nik Mohamad Abduh is also the Pasir Mas MP after he defeated Datuk Ibrahim Ali during the 13th General Elections.
“Who else who we chose as candidate for the Chempaka state seat if not Nik Mohamad Abduh? Who else is more suitable as candidate?
“This is not because he is Nik Abdul Aziz’s son but because he is the most suitable candidate to contest the seat.
“Nik Mohamad Abduh is the best candidate there is. If another candidate is chosen, it’s only because Nik Mohamad Abduh is already an MP and need not contest a state seat.
“But that is not a hindrance and not a violation,” said the source to Astro AWANI.
Apart from being named as the candidate for the Chempaka state seat, Nik Mohamad Abduh is also seen as the potential candidate to be the next Kelantan menteri besar.
“It is also not a wrong to appoint Nik Mohamad Abduh as the Kelantan menteri besar for the next term. What’s important is he must contest the state seat,” the source added.
The Chempaka by-election is being called following the death of its assemblyman Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat on Feb 12 due to prostate cancer.
During the 13th General Elections, Nik Abdul Aziz (PAS) defeated the candidate from Barisan Nasional (BN) Wan Razman Wan Abd Razak with a majority of 6,500 votes.
Nik Abdul Aziz had garnered 12,310 votes against Wan Razman’s 5,810 votes.
The Chempaka by-election is the eighth by-election to be held after the 13th General Elections held on May 5, 2013.
