PAS should not be perceived as the main enemy of Umno, on the contrary the Islam-based party is a friend that can win back support, especially of the Malays, to the Barisan Nasional, said Terengganu UMNO representative Datuk Din Adam.
Debating the policy speech of the Umno president at the 2015 UMNO General Assembly here, the Dungun UMNO division head said the proposed collaboration with the opposition party, which had once won all the eight Parliamentary seats in Terengganu in the 1999 General Election, would be a smart move.
"In Terengganu, the majority of the voters are Malays, and UMNO and PAS are two of the dominating parties in the state. In the 32nd General Election we won mainly in the interior areas, we did not win in the urban areas.
"So, I fully support the proposed collaboration. Do not consider PAS as our main enemy, we must realise that our main enemy is the DAP, because PAS is an Islam-based party with the members comprising the Malays. It's not impossible if the system (collaboration) works smoothly.
"I'm confident that the people in Terengganu who supported PAS would return to us," he said on the second day of the UMNO general assembly.
